Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?

Many women are unhappy with their breasts and wish they could change their outward appearance. If you are one of those women, breast augmentation may be the solution you have been searching for. This simple procedure can enhance the volume, shape, and projection of your breasts, helping you meet your aesthetic goals.

If you are considering surgery to alter your breasts, an augmentation might be the right fit for you. Read on to learn more about breast augmentation, how it works, and who makes the best candidates for this treatment.

What Is a Breast Augmentation Procedure?

With all of the breast-modifying procedures out there, many women are confused about what breast augmentation actually is.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries and can help:

  • Increase the size of your breasts
  • Alter the shape of your breasts
  • Change the projection of your breasts

All kinds of people come into our office asking about this procedure. There is no legal age requirement for breast augmentation surgery. Still, we adhere to the FDA’s guidelines and perform surgery with saline breast implants for women 18 years and older and silicone gel implants for women 22 years and older.

After giving birth, many women get breast augmentation to restore their breasts to pre-pregnancy shape and size.

Others may turn to breast augmentation after a mastectomy to regain the appearance of their original breasts. Both are great ways to improve your overall appearance.

How Does Breast Augmentation Work?

Do you think you might be ready to take the first steps toward breast augmentation surgery? If you feel that this is the right procedure for you, the first step is to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Christopher Tiner. We will welcome you into the office and go over your medical history to ensure you are a good candidate.

Part of the consultation is establishing your goals for breast augmentation. We will analyze your current breast shape, size, and projection to help create a custom treatment plan to help you reach those goals. It is important to us that you get the results you are looking for, so we want to take our time assessing what you need.

Once we understand your end goal, we can determine what it will take to get you there. Our medical professionals will go over all of the different implant dimensions with you and share our professional opinion on which size would help you reach your “final look” objectives. We will also help you decide between saline or silicone implants.

We believe that a one-size-fits-all approach is entirely negligent and ignores each patient’s individual needs. That being the case, our providers take the time to create a tailored treatment plan just for you and your body.

Scheduling the Procedure

We can officially schedule your procedure once your initial consultation is complete and we’ve determined you’re a good candidate for breast augmentation.

You will be placed under general or local anesthesia for this outpatient procedure. Make sure to discuss the details of your aftercare and recovery period with Dr. Tiner.

During your surgery, Dr. Tiner will place your implants either behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle. The specialized aspects of performing the procedure will depend on your body type and the surgical technique we feel would best help you meet your goals.

When Will You See Results?

The good news is that you will see immediate results following your surgery. While it may take some time for your body to heal and recover, you can enjoy the appearance of your new breasts right away. Depending on the level of augmentation that you have done, you may even notice a dramatic difference when your procedure is over.

Breast augmentation is designed to be a long-term solution, which is why it is crucial to be upfront with us about your goals during your initial consultation. Implants last for decades and often never require replacements.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation Surgery?

You might be wondering whether you’re a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery. The truth is that almost anyone in good general health can have this procedure, but some people aren’t eligible.

Despite popular belief, age is not always a factor in evaluating a breast augmentation candidate. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you’re not suitable for this procedure. We also recommend that candidates have realistic expectations for post-surgery outcomes.

If you want to change the size, shape, or projection of your breasts, give our offices a call, we will have you in for a consultation. We will review your medical history with you to decide whether you could benefit from this procedure.

Choosing the Right Surgeon

You should always go to a trained surgeon like Dr. Tiner for plastic surgery. The best, most reputable practices follow all FDA guidelines and employ only board-certified surgeons for procedures like breast augmentation. However, technical skill is not the only thing that matters in these procedures. Surgeons also need to have “an eye.”

The surgeons at Christopher Tiner MD Cosmetic Surgery have this unique skill and can suggest what will look best on your body after an evaluation.
